BCSD Australia Appoints Hamza Hassan to Newly Created Climate Action Manager Role

Sydney, Australia: The Business Council for Sustainable Development Australia has appointed a manager for Climate Action to drive engagement with members in developing ambitious and tangible solutions to address the growing threat from climate change.

Hamza Hassan will begin in the newly created role of Manager, Climate Action, on February 1. He will report to BCSD Australia CEO Andrew Petersen.

Hassan, who holds a Master of Sustainability from Deakin University, will lead the articulation of policy, advocacy and member mobilization on climate action, supporting business as they pursue the positive change they want to see on climate.

“At BCSD Australia, our policy, advocacy and member mobilization elevate the collective work of our members and helps drive them into the national policy agenda, helping them become part of the solution that policy makers and partners are searching for,” said BCSDA CEO Andrew Petersen. “As the leading voice of business for sustainability and at a time when action on climate change is absolutely critical if we are to achieve net zero, Hamza’s appointment will further enhance our efforts.”

BCSD Australia works collaboratively to drive the sustainable transition through enhanced climate, equity and nature action by Australian businesses. This is achieved by engaging senior executives and sustainability leaders from business and elsewhere to share practical insights on the obstacles and opportunities being faced in tackling the integrated climate, nature and inequality sustainability challenge.

In his role, Hassan will also work closely with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and partners including CDP, We Mean Business Coalition, and the Global Reporting Initiative, while coordinating engagement with international organizations such as the United Nations and OECD.

“I am delighted to be joining BCSD Australia at a time that the issue of climate change is top of the agenda for business not just in Australia but globally,” said Hassan. “I’m looking forward to working with BCSD Australia’s members and driving an ambitious and progressive action plan to implement commitments that will deliver positive change for the climate.”
