Consultation on the implementation plan for Australia’s Strategy for Nature 2024–2030

Sydney, 26 September 2025 - The Australian Government has opened consultation on the implementation plan for Australia’s Strategy for Nature 2024–2030, which sets out how the country will deliver its commitments under the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The plan shifts the national conversation from policy intent to coordinated implementation, calling on governments, businesses, First Nations groups, and civil society to work together to protect biodiversity, restore ecosystems, and build resilience through circular and nature-positive solutions.

The Business Council for Sustainable Development Australia (BCSDA) will lodge a submission to this consultation, ensuring business perspectives are represented in shaping the pathways, indicators, and investment mechanisms that will drive delivery of the strategy.

The plan provides a shared roadmap rather than prescribing actions. It outlines six national biodiversity targets and three “enablers of change,” covering areas such as protecting 30% of land and sea, halting extinctions, restoring degraded ecosystems, and increasing Australia’s circularity rate by 2030.

Business is explicitly called on to contribute, not only through delivery but also by helping define indicators, shape data systems, and align biodiversity outcomes with climate, water, circular economy, and cultural benefits.

As the Australian partner of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), BCSDA recognises this consultation as a critical opportunity for business to embed nature-positive practices across value chains. Our submission will emphasise:

  • Mobilising private sector investment, including through the Nature Repair Market.

  • Building strong First Nations partnerships, particularly on Sea Country.

  • Integrating biodiversity with climate and circular economy policies to deliver multiple co-benefits.

For executives, this consultation presents a timely opportunity to help shape policy design and ensure practical, business-informed solutions are embedded from the outset.

BCSDA will include members to explore sectoral pathways and opportunities for cross-industry collaboration in implementing the Strategy for Nature. Submissions for the consultation close on October 15.

BCSDA welcomes input from its members and partners as part of its submission. Interested organisations are encouraged to contact us to contribute their perspectives.
