BCSD Australia Chair, Dr John Hewson, and President and CEO of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), Peter Bakker, sat down with BOSS Magazine's Sally Patten to discuss how both organisations are working to accelerate the transition to a sustainable world.
In the article, both renowned business leaders agreed that the opportunities available to businesses that integrate sustainability are significant and that action does not have to come at the risk of profit.
"We live in a world where climate change or water stress or inequality are beginning to become major risks. They must be part of cost of capital. We need to move away from a risk measure that just looks at financial risk to one that looks at all these other risks," said Mr Bakker. "Australia is at risk of falling behind, to put it mildly."
"If you accept that climate change is happening, and faster than we thought, and if you accept the pace of technology impacting your business, you ask what you should do to respond. That’s where we can assist business – we can provide forums and frameworks," said Dr Hewson.
