Australian Businesses Driving Sustainability
The Business Council for Sustainable Development Australia (BCSD Australia) is the national peak body representing forward-thinking companies and organisations that are working towards the transition to a sustainable Australia. Our mission is to accelerate this transition by making sustainable business more successful.
We are the Australian partner of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). Previously known as Sustainable Business Australia, our members come from all sectors and industries, representing more than 150,000 employees across Australia.
Our members believe that by integrating social and environmental impacts with financial results, business lowers its risk profile, makes better decisions and creates the solutions needed to meet the Sustainable Development Goals.

Recording now available | SB13 and the anti-ESG backlash: what it means for Australian business
The recording is now available for BCSDA’s recent special edition of LANDSCAPE exploring the Texas SB13 case and its implications for Australian business.
In this session, Andrew Petersen was joined by David Levine, Cofounder and President of the American Sustainable Business Network, and Ilona Millar, Partner at Gilbert + Tobin, for a practical discussion on one of the most prominent anti-ESG cases in the United States.
The session examined:
- what SB13 is and how it operates
- what the court decided, and why
- what the ruling changes — and what it does not
- what Australian companies, boards and advisers should take from the case
Rather than treating the issue as political theatre, the discussion focused on the legal reasoning, commercial implications and practical governance lessons for business.
